About Me
Tim Howley hails from East Northport, New York, and is a seasoned educator with a deep-rooted passion for health and well-being. He pursued his academic journey at James Madison University, where he earned his degree in Kinesiology (Health and Physical Education). It was during his time at JMU that Tim met his wife, Liz, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection to the university and Harrisonburg community.
With over 23 years of experience at JMU (as a student, graduate student and professional), Tim has made significant contributions to the university, rising to the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences. Tim has been honored with several awards including the Madison Vision Teaching Award, the Provost’s Award for Outstanding First Year Advising and the All Together One Award.
Tim and Liz are proud parents to four children, each at different stages of their educational journey. Their oldest child, a 17-year-old, is currently a senior at HHS. Their 13-year-old daughter attends THMS, while their 8-year-old son is thriving at Bluestone. The youngest member of the family, a 4-year-old son, is eagerly awaiting his turn to start kindergarten.
Tim has been an active and involved member of the Harrisonburg community since his time as a JMU student. As a student he spent significant time in both RCPS & HCPS as a practicum student and student teacher. He volunteered as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and with the Boys and Girls Club. As a parent, Tim has been involved with his children’s school’s PTOs and has previously served as Co-President and President of the Keister PTO. Tim has been a volunteer baseball coach for Harrisonburg Little League for over a decade.
In both his professional and personal life, Tim Howley exemplifies dedication, compassion, and a commitment to fostering growth and development in those around him. Whether in the classroom or at home, Tim’s influence is felt by all who have the privilege of knowing him.
